Dear Brethren;

Greetings from the Lord's vineyard!

8th ANNUAL MISSIONARY WORKSHOP
Another year has past: This past year has seen a less dramatic increase in the church through baptisms. We had over 430 people added by the Lord to the Kingdom but at least that number have become unfaithful. in Goroka alone we had over 90 baptisms but our attendance remains about the same on Sunday morning.

In the picture on the front all the missionaries in P.N.G. are pictured except for: David & Torami Sitton, Nancy Merritt, Reg and Ruth Coles. The Ray Lockes and the Jim Kennedy's are on leave. David Sitton had just come back from a patrol and was in the hospital with severe medical problems. (He has been released this week.)

RENEWED IN SPIRIT & MIND
The team here in P.N.G. came away from this week long workshop renewed in spirit and mind. Resolved to spend more time and effort in holding on to the Christians whom the Lord has blessed us with. A lot of these brethren are baptized in town but go back to places where the church does not exist and they soon fall back into the world.

KNOTES ON KATHY'S PATROL:
On March 23, Rebecca John and I went to West New Britain which is Becky's home. She comes from a small island off the Main Island of West New Britain, named Bali. We never got that far as the ship which goes out to the island was broken down the first week we were there. One of the captains, in anger over being fired, had dumped a bag of salt in the engine. Needless to say, the boat didn't move anywhere for a while. So Becky sent a letter and money for her father and mother to come to the main island the next week. Only Becky's father got to come and for only two days before we left to come back to Goroka. She has not seen the rest of her family in 7 years.

The reason for my going with Becky is that all her family are Seventh-Day Adventist. I went as a "back-up" for her. They are "very" religious. Really good people. The live by the Old Law "mostly", but they also believe in Jesus as Saviour. On Fridays they cook enough food for that day as well as Saturday. They hold devotionals every morning AND night. Should we do any less with the Truth ? I was able to discuss some points with Becky's uncle David with whom we stayed for those two weeks. He wanted book, chapter and verse for worshipping on Sunday. He's been told by the "pastor" that the Catholic church had changed the day of worship, not God and His Son.

While we were there, I was made to feel very welcome. There was always one (or more) there everyday just to look or talk to me. There had never been another "white-skin" to come and sit down for two weeks in the village . The people there are much more honest there as a whole than the people here in the Highlands.

They worried all the time I was there if I was eating enough and if Tobey would be cross with them for not looking after me enough.
Seven of us (there were 9 adults and 4 children in the one house for these two weeks) that went fishing on Thursday before we came back to Goroka. Actually David, Peter and Sam went fishing, the rest of us played in the water and on the beach. But there were no fish on the reef that day, so we went home empty handed except for a basket of seaweed for everyone. The next night the "pastor" for the SDA's brought over four 5-7 lb. fish for us. They had heard we had caught no fish-! Becky smoked a big one to bring back for Jab Mesa (her fiance). Jab and the two guys who share the flat were overjoyed with the present.

Becky's aunt, Elizabeth made a woven basket for me to bring back to Goroka to remember them by. It will be awhile before I am able to go back but there is an open door and there is always letter writing until then. Pray for them all!

SEVERE REACTION WITH MALARIA MEDICINE
After Kathy came back from West New Britain, she began having chills and fever just like she was coming down with malaria. So we gave her more of the malaria suppressant tablets even though she had just taken her regular weekly dose. The next day she was worse. She always got these ailments after taking her weekly medicine. (She had cerebral malaria while we were in Kundiawa before). With this additional dosage her really took a turn for the worse. Through tests with the Medical institute here in Goroka we found out that her was having a chemical reaction to the malaria medicine. Early last month when we were in Lae a doctor there told her it was nerves. But it was a reaction to the medicine. By giving her a dosage for the treatment of malaria we were slowing O.D.ing her. She has since gotten the medicine out of her system and is feeling 1000% better.

SCOTTS GO ON LEAVE
After the Missionary Workshop the Andy Scott's left to return to the States for leave. They are scheduled to return in Oct or Nov. 1981. While they are gone I have been "nominated" to look after the Bible Training School and we will be doing more of the bush evangelism. Two areas that Andy and Catherine were in charge of before they left. The house which they are building here in town (was scheduled to be finished in Jan 181) still lacks about 2 months work before it-is ready.

JAB &BECKY GETTING MARRIED
By the time you read this newsletter Jab Mesa and Rebecca John will have already gotten married. Jab was the brother who was with us there in the States for a while. If you want to sent a card or anything just sent it care of our box.( c/o Box 878, Goroka, Papua New Guinea). Airmail would get here sometime in May, surface sometime in October. 'I'll tell you about it next month, as I am the one officiating.

FUTURE PRINTING WORK
In the next few months John Wallace and I are to print the following: Song Book (in Pidgin English for all the churches); 1981 Walking in Yesterday; several new curriculum books for the Bible school programs and we should be starting on the Concordance. "All in all I'd rather be in Philadelphia."
