Dear Brethren;

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus

ANNUAL WORKSHOP HOSTED IN GOROKA

The Annual PNG Missionary Workshop was hosted this year here in Goroka.

STATISTICS REVIEWED
During each annual missionary workshop we gather the facts and figures of the past year to enable us to evaluate what we have done right or wrong. We found out the following this year

2066 Christians
79 congregations/ average attendance 25
There are 123 evangelists (full and part time) on the payroll of the various congregations.
Over the past year we have had a 30% growth rate. (new converts)
Last year saw 20.2 % of the converts forsake the
Lord and go back into the world. (of total members)
There are three full time Bible Training schools in session; Lae, Goroka, Mt. Hagen.

The Goroka congregation underwent a shakedown last year in which we lost more than we gained. A large number of our members who were active in the work moved to other areas. During the month of April we seem to have turned the corner and our numbers are beginning to increase.

During March our averages were:
Sunday AM 90; Thursday 141.

During April our averages were:
Sunday AM 101; Thursday 204. 1 Baptism.

HOME BASE TO OUTREACH
The missionaries and the members here in Goroka have a very large part in the establishment and growth of over 35 congregations located in the Eastern Highlands and Chimbu Provinces. The men who are being trained in our Bible School are all from these congregations. Pray for them

THEME OF THE WORKSHOP: PRAY ABOUT IT!
tack to the Missionary workshop: We were very fortunate (we prayed about it believing) to have Larry McKenzie who preaches with the Highlands Street church in Memphis Tenn. Our theme was "PRAYER AND MINISTRY OF THE WORD".Larry spoke to us an hour in the morning and an hour every evening. Very very good stuff !

SMALL PRESS PASSES ON
The small table model TTR-2 printing press finally passed on with motoriac arrest. The last attack it sustained was in Jan. 1981. At that time we were able to rewind the motor. This time the armature failed. We are in need of $900.00 to transplant a new motor and to be able to use it again. A new press costs over $6000. now.

THE LORD KNOWING, PROVIDES!
The Lord knowing the motor on the TTR-2 was on its wire provided yet another press for the work. I had put a tender in for a used Multilith 125ON which the University in Lae was selling. WE GOT IT ! We paid $600.00 for it. AND IT WORKS! The kids were out of school for two weeks and so in the second week we took the van to Lae and picked up the press (6 of us picked it up, I just drove the van.) and brought it back to Goroka. For $600.00 we weren't sure it would work. A new press of the same model costs over $10,000. I had looked last year but just couldn't see coming up with that kind of monnnnney. After setting it up and adjusting it she has been running non-stop with the other 125O we brought back last year from the states. It too likes to eat a piece of paper or two every once and a while! I sure miss, the TTR-2 for the quickie jobs.

COMPLETION OF CONCORDANCE NEAR
The concordance in Pidgin English we have been working on for so long in nearing completion. We only have 36 more pages to run and the collating the final copies. 36 more out of 542 isn't too bad. After we complete this I will begin work on reprinting the HET TOK and begin to do work on a Pidgin English pictorial Dictionary.

DAVID LOCKS RETURN TO CANADA
Again illness has taken one of our missionary families back to the States. David Lock returned for tests at the Toronto Tropical Medicine Clinic last month after the workshop. Please pray with us for them.

We love those letters. Your servants,
