Dear Brethren;
Greetings in the name of Jesus.
We have been back for almost two months now and feel that I can write without all our culture stress coming through. I have had to almost literally drag Kathy out of the grocery store or Walmart because the prices were so ridiculously cheap as to what we are used to paying in New Zealand. There were a few times she almost had to do the same thing to me.
To bring you up to date since we left New Zealand: The weekend before we left NZ Terasa's boy friend, Peter German, was baptized. He is planing to come visit us over the Christmas holidays. He asked me to baptize him. To say things have been hot since we got back would be an understatement. But we have gotten use to the heat somewhat. Right after we got back (July 15th) I bought a car from my sister. She had been driving back from Tulsa when it 'just quit'. She was with her fiance and they were fed up with it and so I bought it for the scrap value. Claudia and Jeff bought another car to drive back to Tulsa. Subsequent inspection showed that a part of a spark plug had broken off in #3 cylinder and the piece had fallen down on the piston. Since there is no extra space in the cylinder for the piece it made a new hole in the top of the piston. Exit all compression also. I was able to jack the engine up in the car enough to replace the piston and bearing. These repairs were made over a number of days and the car is now back on the road. Terasa has since passed both her written and driving tests for her Missouri driver's license. She now has a car for college. Terasa also had to take the ACT test to see whether she could go on to Missouri Southern College here in Joplin. She took the test and received a grade of 23. This provided her with a Regent Scholarship which will provide $300 per semester. She started school the 22nd of August.
Jason went to Bible camp for a week and came back Senior Boys Horseshoe throwing champion. (I ask him if they had to throw with the horses still attached.) Jason is going through some times. Everyone remembers him ten inches shorter and without a deep quiet voice. He also speaks with a New Zealand accent and everybody wants to hear him say something. The only thing some people haven't done is throw peanuts at him. (He would surely eat them like he does everything else.)
Since getting back we have been busy getting things in order with our house. We have put it up for sale. With us receiving permanent visas for New Zealand we decided that we don't need to hold on to the house here. As many of you will remember while we were gone this last time our renters tore up the house and cost us over $1500. The second renters have been very considerate. The rent received is not enough to cover the mortgage and as our support has continued to decrease we feel it would be better to sell the house. While Kathy's dad and mom were on vacation (their house we are batching in) Jason and I put a new roof on their house. Rusty already had the shingles in the basement. We had to take off the old shingles first. The rain held off except on the second day and when the temperatures reached 100, 1 got off the roof.
All the car repairs and the roof work came after we returned from Sulphur Springs Texas. We went down there our second week back to have Dr. Claude Reynolds check us out. He did a real cutup job. Kathy had a couple of moles cut off, I had eight moles cut off and Jason had two moles cut off. The results came back all negative. Everything else is O.K.
This month we have begun our travels in search of the elusive support and sponsor. We have continued to lose support and after September we will have only $980 per month support. As we look at the opportunities and open doors the Lord is showing in the South Pacific we can't help but believe that the Lord had plans for us.
