Volume 2, No. 7 July 1979
Dear Brethren;
Greetings in the name of the Lord.
. This picture shows only a small portion. As of June 1979 the property now
belongs to us. The congregation who sponsors the John Wallace family here raised
the necessary monies and paid the bank note off. John sealed and closed the
deed the last day he was here before he returned to the states to rejoin his
family. Praise God for such congregations as Meads Chapel there outside of Nashville.

Some months as we reflect back on our labors, visible results are few. We wonder
just what we have done for heaven's sake this month. June was one of those months.
In reality a lot was accomplished, but it is hard to relate events in such a
way as to excite you my fellow-workers. (I find myself drifting off to sleep
just typing this up.)
As stated earlier in this report John finally left. He tied up enough loose
ends here and stored the rest to enable him to return to the states there to
rejoin his family. Sara is to undergo surgery in July. This month we finished
printing the Papua New Guinea Information
Booklet (finally). We have 50 pages packed with: maps, plans, pictorial histories
of the total work for the Lord's church since 1971 and the pictures and addresses
of your missionaries currently serving here In Papua New Guinea. Also we have
included an appendix with information on what to expect here in Papua New Guinea
and how to prepare yourself to come. We have titled it, "WALKING IN YESTERDAY".
They cost us $1.40 per booklet to print. We were told by the local print shop
that they would have had to charge us over $7.00 per booklet if they had printed
It.
Again this month I have been spending lots of time in translation work (if
you want to ever kill a bunch of time do translation) on the Topical Index into
Pidgin English. I have only 20 of the 125 topics left to translate. I hope to
have this finished sometime next week. Up to now we have over 70 of the topics
printed ready for collation. We will be binding them in a spiral binding so
that topics can be added in the future as they are translated. We charged the
binding machine last month and sometime this month we will owe $600. This book
is a very much needed Bible help in Pidgin English.
In early July we hope to begin printing the concordance that Joe Cannon has
spent 5 years In compiling for the Pidgin English New Testament. At present
we still don't have the necessary funds for the paper but we know the Lord will
want it done so we're going ahead with the printing on faith.
With all this time spent with translating, typing, and printing it seemed as
if nothing else was accomplished.

In June, Kathy was in the hospital for 25 hours. She had seen an English doctor
here and he was to do a D & C. We put her in the hospital Weds afternoon
for surgery Thursday morning.(She had earlier been scheduled for surgery on
Monday but on Sunday the doctor called and cancelled it until Thursday as Monday
was the Queen's Birthday). Thursday morning the head nurse gave her a relaxing
shot prior to surgery and then said, The School of Life in Lae recently completed
construction of new facilities with funds provided by Highland St in Memphis.
Pictured here Is the current enrollment who are undergoing 2 years of Bible
Training.
"Oh, Dr. Henderson won't be able to operate today as his children are
home sick, but If you like we have a local chap from Rabaul who is qualified
and ready if you want to go ahead with the surgery." Kathy decided, why
not !,only one life to give for medical research !(She decided to be a New Guinea
pig for research.)
I rescued her from the hospital Thursday afternoon. She told me later that
even though she was denied breakfast (for surgery) she didn't miss what they
served- baked beans on toast. (believe it or not the Australians consider baked
beans on toast for breakfast a special treat. It is served in all the classy
restaurants in this part of the world.)
During late June, the Lord definitely feeling sorry that my report for June would probably be short on news, shook us up, down and all around.

June 25- 3:30 an earthquake registering 6.5 on the Richter scale shook the
northern half of Papua New Guinea. It was located 70 miles north of Goroka.
Our area of Goroka was blacked out for 50 minutes when the quake felled a tree
across power lines. Cars bucked as the streets heaved. Supermarkets were a mess
with broken bottles and dented cans piled high In the aisles. Four families
at Goroka Teacher's College left their homes. They were occupying newly finished
apartments which were extensively damaged by the earthquake. The building was
pushed out of shape when bricks walls supporting the roof cracked.
Our house is built 15 feet off the ground and supported by 4 inch steel poles.
We were really boogieing around up there for the minute the quake was quaking.
Nothing was damaged (but our nerves), just knickknacks all over the floor and
all the doors In the house swinging open.
We appreciate the box of colors sent by the 2nd grade class at Warrinton Church
of Christ, Vicksburg Miss. Thank You from all of us
Until next month, my the Lord continue to bless you!
