June - July 1990
Dear Brethren & Friends;
Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!
Well - what can I say? How time flies. Before I knew it tomorrow is today and today is yesterday. Not puzzling if you came around with me for a day. Don't even voice the thought that this comes on as one gets older.
WBS REQUESTS STILL COMING FROM JULY 1989 ADS
We continue to be deeply involved with the World Bible School in Papua New Guinea
and the Fiji Islands. This past month we received requests to become involved
in WBS in Australia and the Cook Islands as well.
We are still getting requests for enrollment in the courses on the original newspaper coupons placed in the PNG paper July 1989. We now have over 1650 students in PNG. Over 20 have been through 5 complete courses. After we got back from our trip to PNG we initiated a new follow-up program so as to have a better chance of conversion. If the students are close to where we have congregations we mail their certificates to workers there and the students have to contact our workers for their certificates. This has resulted in better contacts. Over 50 of these students are now having personal studies with follow-up workers in PNG and 15 have been baptized.
BOOKLETS OF TRACTS PRINTED
We have finished the "FOUNDATION FOR FAITH" course and now have over
200 students on this course. We should see a more positive response to the other
courses in the future as we use the course to lay a solid foundation for their
faith. We have been encouraged by the exceptionally few requests we have received
for material things from the PNG WBS students. We did receive a recent request
for enough musical instruments to set up a mini band. I sent their letter to
Jab Mesa and ask him to respond to the letter.
We also completed the printing of the yellow WBS booklet "The Church" in the narrow format. The Red and Green booklets are next. We have also printed literally thousands of tracts to use in response to questions asked by our students.
PRINTSHOP UPDATE
Since the last newsletter I have hired a Christian brother to work in the Printshop
with us. His name is Dan Martin. He is being used in the art department and
is a capable printing press operator. This is another step in getting the shop
self-supporting so that I will be free to get out into the Islands with the
Bible Training Schools.
We were able to produce the yearbook for the Melanesian Bible College in Lae, PNG. We are also waiting for confirmation on the reprinting of the Buk Song (song book) in Pidgin English for the brethren in Papua New Guinea. We last printed it in 1984. The extra copies we left when we moved in 1985 have been exhausted. When we moved in 1985 we left a large amount of printed material which was to be bought at cost and the funds kept in an account to be used to buy future reprinting as needed without having to be a huge financial drain on anyone's workfund. But the system hasn't and didn't work so the workers are going to have to dig up the funds for a reprint of the Buk Song.
We appreciate the funds many of you have sent to help our needs. We are still seeking additional funds toward the costs to reprint the other WBS booklets in the narrow format.
Terasa called recently saying she was doing well. We received a letter from Harding saying she had made the academic Dean's list again. I made the Dean's list several times but not the academic dean (and not at Harding).
Please continue to pray for our need of funds for the outreach WBS work and the needed trips to hold Bible Training Schools/World Bible School Seminars in the various islands throughout the South Pacific.
In Christ,
the Huffs
