Volume 3 #10                                                                       NOVEMBER 1980

Dear Brethren:

We have become travel-holics. That is to say that whenever we stop for a few days we have withdrawal pains, (hard to sit still). it kind of reminds me of roller skating: after you have finished skating your feet and body still have the sensation of moving on. When on the road traveling, we spend a lot of time at McDonald's. That has made us McDonald-holics, also.

This month has really been exciting. We have traveled many miles, been to many places and have seen many peoples. The reception to the Lord's work in PNG has been tremendous. Our only low ebb is the slow pace in which funds have come in to meet our present needs. Even now though I know of many congregations who are accessing how much they will be helping towards this challenging work. We want to thank all of you who have opened your hearts and homes to us. For you who receive our newsletter but haven't seen us, yet, - we haven't finished yet. Traveled miles to date = 10,400.

Our biggest need in the PNG work at present is the printing facilities. We need a congregation (or individual) who will help us meet this challenge. At least $500 is needed monthly to cover operating expenses. In addition, we need $15,000 to help buy equipment. At present we have some equipment but to keep up with and ahead of demand, new equipment is a necessity.

QUESTION: WHY PRINT LITERATURE ??????????
ANSWERS:

1. Written material has a more lasting effect than verbal and lecture type teaching. Without written material for personal study and evaluation you in essence can only program your Bible students as you would a puppet.

2. Written lessons help to and are essential in the increasing of one's Bible knowledge and the strengthening of Christians.

3. Written material can be used in teaching others.

4. Literature is especially valuable for Christians in outlying areas when they don't have access to teaching programs to further their knowledge and to build them up.

5. Material can be used to advertise the church.

6. There is limited religious material available most of which is denominational error. We have NO concordance on the Pidgin English Bible. This limits very much the ability of our Bible training schools to help our men further their own knowledge in the Scriptures.

7. It is possible to send literature to places where it is physically impossible (or super difficult) for us to go. (I.E. remote areas, jails, etc.)

8. The people thirst for religious literature.

9. The people take pride in possessing Bible literature and they use it over and over again.

10. The printed page is just one way in which we can spread the Gospel throughout all of Papua New Guinea.

WHY LITERATURE is ANSWERED, but why should we have to print it? Can't we get it done locally by a commercial printer ???????

ANSWER: NO, NO, NO! It is way too expensive to have it printed locally and we would have to wait for weeks even months to get things printed. By owning our own printing equipment, whatever needs printing can be printed with a minimal lost of time.

We now stand at the crossroads in the PNG work. Will we establish the printed work now or will we be faced with a literature shortage in the Bible School programs which now exist and which in the future will exist. These programs are teaching our present and our future leaders in the Lord's Church there in PNG. (God has said of the past, "my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge").

It is bad enough when people of a society cannot read or write their spoken language. But I really believe it is worse when those who can read and write have not the literature to fill their minds with knowledge they long for.

Our desire is to fill this knowledge void with good Godly Bible material before they lose their desire for it. We hope and pray that you will help us in our needs.

In Christ
