VOLUME 8; NO. 11 NOVEMBER 1985
Dear Brethren;
Greetings in the name of our Lord! This newsletter is the last one for this year. Where has the time gone? Lord willing the next newsletter you get from us will be from Tauranga New Zealand.
TRIP TO PNG AND NEW ZEALAND
We have continued to visit with congregations this past month in regards to
our planned move to New Zealand. During October we found out that we were not
going to be able to take Abraham into New Zealand on our visa as we had previously
thought. Somehow we were going to have to take him back to Papua New Guinea
to Jab and Becky. He will then go into New Zealand on their visa when they go
in January to school.
While trying to figure out how we could accomplish this need without paying for another ticket I received a phone call from New Zealand. Peter Craig is the administrator of the Bible school in Tauranga where we plan to set up home. Peter was helping us with customs on the car and container of personal effects we had shipped from PNG. He called to say "we had trouble". The car and container had arrived in New Zealand. Usually customs will put such items in 'bond' and then when the owner arrives to clear customs on the goods charge a storage fee. No problem with the container. But the car was in bad shape. The customs people had called Peter to say that the car was going to have to be cleared through customs because they did not want to be liable for the damages which were evident.
When we as a family arrive in New Zealand with our visas we will be allowed to immigrate with all our household goods and car duty free. But since we do not our visas yet Peter was going to have to import the car and pay normal duty on it (80%). So Peter imported the car and we paid $5700 duty on it. This duty will be refundable when we get our visas and arrive in New Zealand to live. Peter was calling to say "what are we going to do for money ?". I told him to print some, sounds good to me! With Abraham's need and this new challenge we decided I needed to go and take Abe back and come back through New Zealand and check out the problems there. S000000oooooooo, I made the trip: 68 hours in the air, 24 hours in airports between flights, over a 8 days period.
Abe and I were met at Port Moresby airport by Jab. We talked for 1 1/2 hours then I got back on the plane to Sydney and then on the New Zealand. I spent 3 days in NZ trying to pave the way for our imminent return in January.
The car had been hot wired while still in PNG. They ended up burning up the wiring harness, battery, starter, fuel pump and several switches. All this had to be fixed after Peter cleared the car from customs in order for him to drive it to Tauranga which is 2 1/2 hours southeast of Auckland where it had been off loaded from the ship. We had to spend over $800. in repairs. This cost we hope to recover from insurance. I was also able to contact the immigration people in regard to our visas to work in NZ. The labor department had my file NO.# but the file was in some bigwig's office for review and he wasn't available. But they did say there was nothing negative and we should receive our visa approval forthwith. We are praying for permanent visa status so that we would be able to have free medical coverage while in NZ. If we only get temporary visas (good for 2 years at a time) we would have to pay for any needed medical treatment.
MESAS OBTAIN SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL
We were notified that the church in Rowlett Texas will be providing support for the Mesa's during their two years of schooling in New Zealand. Thank You
We are still in need of their travel fund of $2000 for tickets.
LITTLE BY LITTLE CAMPAIGN CONTINUES
The sum of funds needed increased this month with the additional $2,000 trip
I was required to make. We mentioned that if everyone would just send in $15
for this need there would be enough to cover these needs. Many of you have graciously
sent funds to this need but we are still a long way from the total sums needed.
Therefore would you please help by sending $20, 50, $100 or whatever you can
this one time. All contributions are tax deducible! If there are surplus funds
they would be held in account by our sponsor for future needs. Please don't
think that everyone else will send funds and your's will not be needed.
PLEASE SEND YOUR CHECK TODAY!
