VOL 2, NO. 10 OCTOBER 1979
DEAR BRETHREN;
THEY THREW ROCKS INTO THE AIR.
WHEN THEY
LANDED OUR BUS WAS THERE!
September was a month of broken glass for us. We took a bus loaded with girls
and inner tubes down to the river on my birthday. On the way back to Goroka
a Suzuki Brute car presented me with a birthday gift. A rock through the windshield.
Was it safety glass you ask? HA, HA! shatter, shatter, boom! And to think that
I thought no one knew it was my birthday.
While Paul was driving another bus to pick up riders for a Thursday night service
a little boy pitched a rock at one of the side windows with smashing results.
His father paid for it the next day.
For some months now one of my back teeth has been bothering me. The tooth is
part of a bridge and has a gold crown on it. I finally went to the dentist in
Lae who drilled through the crown and found bad news underneath. He worked away
and then put a temporary filling in it with instructions to come back later
for a permanent filling. I went back (after getting a loan from the bank here).
He filled It. Total cost: $92.00. Next time I have them pull and I'll sell the
gold
During September Ray Lock was grounded an his way back to Lae one weekend.
The clutch went out on his Subaru. He borrowed our Land Cruiser, drove back
to Lae, air freighted a new clutch to me, I installed the clutch, drove his
car to Lae and then drove our car back. Sounds so simple doesn't it. This was
done despite help from the national car sales firms.
The Johnsons are here in Goroka. They have been collating the Topical Indexes
and getting them bound up. The Harrison girls have been helping in the collating
and binding also.
A while back I commented on the "SO CALLED" high gasoline prices
you were having to pay in the states. I should have kept my mouth shut. Our
gasoline went up 25¢ per gallon. NOW: $1.80 p/gallon.

KNOTES FROM KATHY:
September started off reasonably well. On the 4th I turned 30. There's no turning
back now. Of course, Tobey rejoiced because I caught up with his age for 13
days. He really rubbed it in that I was 30 also. On the 17th though, Tobey went
on to 31. While he only has a few days to rib me I have 352 days to rib him.
Sept. 16th is Papua New Guinea's Independence Day. So, here we had a long weekend.
We took advantage of it and the kids being out of school to go to the river
with inner tubes. It was great fun. The Harrison and Johnson girls went as well
Happy and Rusty the dogs. I don't swim and really don't like the water all that
much but we all had a good time skimming the rapids. On the way back we lost
the windshield of the bus to a rock. Fortunately we had a spare one from an
old wreck we had bought for spare parts. It came in handy.
Later in the month, while the children were out a week for term break we went
to Lae for more dental work. It's the first time I have ever been cold in Lae.
It's raining there and dry up here in the Highlands. We need rain badly for
the gardens. The mountains are being burned off and what isn't burned by fire
is brown from lack of rain.
OUR BINDING MACHINE SURROUNDED BY BOUND AND TO BE BOUND TOPICAL INDEXES.
I've given my Thursday night class to LaMoine and she's using Teri to help
her. That's handy where as Moses, Teri's son, won't stay in class without mom.
This is giving me a bit of rest from teaching. I'll probably be teaching the
ladies class on Sunday morning starting in December when Paul and Linda McAnally
go on leave. That's all for this month. Good-day ! ! ! ! ! !
PRINTING: This past month we printed 10,000 gospel tracts
and 6,000 Bible book markers to be handed out at the Lae Show. We printed two
booklets and 1500 Bible Correspondence Courses also.
