VOLUME 7; NO.11 OCTOBER 1984
Dear Brethren;
Grace and peace from our Lord Jesus Christ
SO MUCH FOR A QUIET PRINTING PRESS
I really did finally get started with the reprint of the song book. I have had
both presses running this past month but most of the printing has been done
on the #1 press. (The one bought from Texarkana and shipped over in 1979.) The
other one is the press we bought from Port Moresby that I was telling you about
in August. Over 187,570 pieces of literature were slapped with some ink this
last month. I am hoping (and so are the churches here) to have the Song Buk
printed and put together before Dec. 1st (I will let you know the year later).
I have been teaching classes on Wednesday evening (English) and Sunday night
(English). I am now teaching the Thursday night men and women classes (Pidgin
English) on the Church of the New Testament. I wanted to teach a series on men
of the Bible to the men's class but have no material in Pidgin English. While
I am translating material for this series I am teaching both classes. After
I get the material printed, Kathy will teach the women, "women of the Bible'
and I will teach the men, 'men of the Bible.' All of you who know me know that
sitting down is not my most desirable work location. But I'm a learning.
TIDBITS
Remember the puppy we got earlier in the year and ended up with her having to
have a blood transfusion after she ate rat poison ? Well, she ate poison again
and we didn't notice it in time and she died on us. Both dogs which have died
due to rat poison died on Sunday mornings.
September is also our family's great birthday month. I don't particularly like
adding another year to the total but I like the options less. Kathy turned 35
years young and I turned 36 (that's right mom I'm now 36 years). My mom will
tell you that the way I began life they didn't ever expect me to reach puberty.
The doctors always told me my pimples would clear up when I grew up. Not much
hair on top anymore but the pimples are finally clearing up.
The Lae congregation officially opened their new building this month. They had over 1500 people in attendance. The Morobe Provincial Premier (not a Christian) officially opened it. We printed up the invitation cards and Jab had to find and haul over a ton of kaukau (sweet potato) down to Lae for their big feast after the opening.
LAE CHURCH OPENING
The Andy Scott family left for a short leave in the states. They are due to
return February 1985 to PNG. Look them up
PRAYER NEEDS
We would like to request your consideration and prayers for our following needs:
(l) monthly funds ($500) for the printing work which provides literature for
all the churches here in PNG; (2) immediate funds ($3,000). for the printing
work for debts incurred due to inadequate monthly funds; (3) school fees will
be due Feb.1985 for Jason ($1500) and Terasa ($2500). Thank You
YOU NEED BUT CALL
Bob Wiley and Rusty Haynes, the elders from Joplin who recently visited with
us here, have called and said they would be more than willing to give a presentation
of our work to any congregations who would be interested. I would like to encourage
all of our supporting congregations to contact them and set up a time when they
can show the congregation their view of our work here. PLEASE call: RUSTY HAYNES

INFLATION WOES
Usually once a year I work up a list of prices of goods we buy here. The last
list was prepared June 182 when the US dollar was worth 71¢ PNG money.
Sept. 1984 the US dollar was worth 87¢ their currency.
Though the US dollar has gained strength against the local currency the prices
of most imported goods continue to rise. This means that even though we receive
more local money for each dollar the goods in the stores rise in price also.
The rate of inflation was 22% from 1982-1984. With this in mind you can see
why we are asking for your consideration of our needs. Our salary and working
fund have not been increased in the last two years. If you would like more information
and/or would like to financially assist please contact:

And that's the way it were September 1984.
